Dear Parishioners and Friends,

HO, HO, HO... I wasn't with you for the first time in 11 years to celebrate the feast of Gaudete or Rejoice Sunday and wear my "Manly Rose" vestments! Now, we enter the
final days of Advent and prepare more intensely for the Incarnation - the coming of the Eternal Word Made Flesh in the birth of a baby at Christmas.

I thank you for your continued prayers and good wishes for my complete and quick healing. Unfortunately, my recovery will not be complete or quick. I have developed an open sore about one inch square at the base of my tailbone. It will take weeks, if not months, to heal. All this time on my back has atrophied my leg muscles. This means that I must strengthen those muscles so that I can once again stand, maintain my balance and walk.

This is NOT how I expected to spend the "Sunset Years" of my life! Over the past few weeks, Jesus and I have had many discussions about this! I have to wait with an Advent patience and expectation for an answer. I have been granted by Bishop Fisher a Temporary Medical Leave until March 9, 2026.

On December 10 I was moved to an assisted living facility that has Occupational and Physical Therapy. After that, when I am deemed ready to leave, I will finally return to
the rectory and be at home. In the meantime, I am very grateful to Fr. Shafique Madih,
a Pakistani Priest who spent most of his priesthood in Pakistan.

He had to leave his country and came to the US because of the intense violence of radical terrorists in certain areas within his diocese. He is a Priest in Good Standing in the Archdiocese of Detroit and is in between assignments. Fr. Shafique will cover all weekend, Wednesday night and Holy Day Masses as well as all Funeral Masses in my
absence. All administrative duties will be covered by our Parish Pastoral Team.

I wish you the many blessings found in this coming Christmas Season - especially in the most unexpected people and places! HAVE A BLESSED CHRSTMAS SEASON!!!

AND I HOPE TO "SEE YOU IN CHURCH ONE DAY!!!"

Fr. Nick
