Our Mission:

We, the parishioners of St. Martin de Porres of Warren,

reflecting the qualities of our patron saint, strive to
proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, celebrate the mystery of God’s love
in our midst, and serve one another and the wider human community,

thus continuing the Mission of Jesus Christ.

Prayer for our Warming Center Guests

God our Heavenly Father, as we welcome our Warming Center guests to our St. Martin family, we ask your blessing upon them. Help them to feel comfortable during their stay with us. Give them hope when they feel hopeless. Give them faith to believe in
your loving care for them. Help them to know of your love through the love they receive from us. As they search each day for more stability in their lives, let them not give in to discouragement but be strengthened through the support of others.

Bless also all those who generously share their time and gifts with them. We ask this through Jesus, your Son and our Brother.

For the past week, we welcomed many, many homeless men and women to our parish center as our guests. An army of volunteers, some new and some veteran, came forward to extend Christian hospitality and to be Christ’s hand and feet and heart to our homeless. This is truly our Catholic faith in action, and checks off many squares in the Corporal and Spiritual Acts of Mercy: to feed the hungry, to give drink to the thirsty, to give shelter to the homeless, to welcome the stranger, to give counsel to the doubtful and, when needed, to admonish the sinner! Thanks to all of our wonderful parish stewards and staff who made the sacrifice of time, talent and treasure to sponsor this year’s Warming Center, which goes back to 2011.

Every region of the world is organized into conferences of Catholic Bishops. Ours in the United States is called the United States Council of Catholic Bishops. Each council or conference has a board of directors, headed by a president who is elected by the bishops. Pope Francis is meeting with the presidents of EVERY episcopal conference in the world to at the Vatican to deliberate on concrete steps to address the sexual abuse crisis in our Church. It is my hope that this reflection will cover ALL areas of misconduct by Church bishops, priests, deacons, religious and lay leaders. It is my hope that this reflection will cover any malfeasance or dereliction of duty of bishops who did not act properly in handling the abuse cases. Please pray for our world’s bishops, for all victims of abuse, and for justice for all whose lives are touched by this scandal and sin.
